Sound Science

A fairly quiet room has between 30-50dB of background noise. A home theatre is like a big-screen experience and emits up to 100dB. That means your walls need a STC rating of 50 or more to allow the rest of your home some peace and quiet. Typical wood stud construction would have a rating between 27-34dB. A 100dB theatre would produce a massive 70dB of sound in such a typical wood stud construction room.
